Weekly selection: The best Champagne for the 17th of May

Weekly Selection

On Wednesday 6th May, this bargain of a Champagne is released through Vinmonopolet's online shop.

A full thousand magnum bottles arrive in Norway from the Champagne cooperative Chassenay d'Arce in Ville-sur-Arce in southern Champagne.

The cooperative was founded in 1956, when fifty small Champagne growers came together to form what has gradually become an address responsible for any number of Champagnes offering remarkable value for money.

Today, 130 families across three generations, spread across twelve different villages, deliver their grapes here each year. Together they own 315 hectares of vineyards, making Chassenay d'Arce a relatively large producer. Not that this comes at the expense of quality, only the price.

Their 2012, made predominantly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and bottled exclusively in magnum, is a remarkably concentrated and well-made Champagne at an almost unbelievable price , ready to drink now, or to keep for further ageing.
